EUROPEAN HISTORY MOVING
The teaching of history has been affected over the years by a renewal with the introduction in the teaching of the use of sources and documents. Cinema as a visual language is recognized as a tool to be combined with other types of communication (verbal, textual, iconographic) resulting more engaging, motivating and more congenial to the cognitive styles of young people.
The project places Cinema at the center of a New Didactic Method for the study of History in the field of youth education in a context of formai and non-formai learning. Cinematic language can not be considered a substitute for the written text, but offers another look at history precisely because it “puts on stage”, “represents” it and as a means of expression allows usto bring out precious element s. The cinema can therefore be found to be profitable from many points ofview, eg. it is possible to create interest in history even in classes that are not inclined towards prolonged attention, reinforcing the interest of the students. The complexity of historical reality may require a cross-examination of severaI investigative tools that stimulates the realization of a more engaging path of understanding and analysis forali students. The use of films can also make it possible to broaden culturaI horizons, also considering the possibility of reading the same event from different angles, thus contributing to refining the criticai capacity . The students have grown up in a “multimedia” environment which, although with limitations, can constitute a resource to be exploited and used, therefore many different languages can offer the teacher the opportunity to educate his students to the multiplicity of points of view.
The image, therefore, is a privileged vehicle of memory, hence the high educational value of this medium, which allows the student to visit the past and also the present. But what makes this medium effective and attractive, can be its limit, which consists in the lack of a clear line of demarcation between real and fantastic, between story and reproduction, this is the reason of the fundamental mediating function of the teacher who accompanies the students in this educational path .
The Cinema is included in the Cultura! Heritage as it is one of the foundations of culturaI expression, representation of stories, values and traditions of the national identities that united build the European spac e. The project aims to promote and enhance
the Cinema and at the same time make it an instrument of education and trainin g. The strength of the image, in fact, combined with cinematographic cultura! creativity, becomes sociaI and educational value because it brings out and develop talent, allows generai literacy, contributes to the recovery of children with learning difficulties, becomes a professional and creative opportunity for the development of employability in the creative and culturaI industry.
The project is an Exchange of Good Practices to support the comparison, research and application of new teaching methods with a view to building the intercultural European Community of learning and education, so it requires development in a transnational context for geographical, socio-cultura! characteristics and types of subjects involved .
